I'm happy to have inspired this effort. Sometimes there's nothing like somebody doing something the "wrong" way to cause development by Plasma guys. :-)

Also known as: the easiest way to get a question answered on the internet is often times not to ask, but to post the wrong answer!

Some people may prefer the Qt 4 version, so I won't delete my post. Anyway, it's useful for other abadonware with the same problem (many dynamic links to libraries dropped from repositories) but which may not be so easily ported.
